First off, Id like to thank each and every one of you for helping create such empowering community. From Tommy and Channel to our mascot Sarabi, and everyone in between I am grateful for each of you. I have been to many CF boxes and very few of them have had as much soul as ABC/IACF. So, I am extremely honored to be your spotlight boot camper! My name is Whit Outlaw better known as “Sherry’s son”. I am the youngest of her 5 kids. I grew up in Bulverde and moved to Austin after High School. Four years later I graduated from Texas State. I moved back temporarily for work, and that’s when my mom asked me to go to bootcamp with her. I met Channel for the first time when she was still coaching over at Powerhouse. I went in thinking “I’m in pretty good shape” and “If my mom can do it so can I”. I’ve never been more wrong in my life. That’s the day I learned what “nasties” were. About 3 minutes in I was about to pass out, and I couldn’t walk for about a week after. Needless to say I was hooked after that. I ended up moving back to Austin and became a Massage therapist. I worked for a chiropractor in S. Austin for a little over 4 years. I worked with mostly athletes and car accident injuries. After recovering from their injury clients would always ask me how to get in shape, and I would always refer them to my friends who taught CF. I then decided to get my level 1 Cert. and try to emulate what Channel has done with ABC. I coached for about two years and got burnt out from working almost full time at the Chiro. and coaching almost full time before and after work. This is where I want to thank all of our AWESOME coaches! As athletes we don't see all that goes on behind the scenes. From programming, opening up every morning (those heaters that we huddle around don't turn themselves on) to always having a smile on your face, and genuinely caring when you ask how we are doing. You are appreciated! Ive had the privilege to go to each of your class’s and you are all unique and special in your own way. Keep doing what you're doing! There is a saying “Show me your friends and Ill show you your future”. I moved back from Austin about 3 months ago. Before that I fell into the music scene in Austin and was more worried about being cool, and partying, than being a good person. I fell into a deep depression and realized that I didn’t have many “real” friends. Just people trying as hard as me to attain the highest level of cool possible. I didn’t like what my future looked like. I decided it was time for a change, so I sold my house and moved back to good ol’ Bulverde. I was overwhelmed with the amount of love and genuine good Ive encountered at ABC/IACF. Im much more optimistic about my future now. I’ve learned that it doesn't take much to stay alive. Just the basics food, water, shelter, and protection. Ive realized that it takes one more essential ingredient to live a happy life, and that is acceptance and a sense of community. When I think about our FitFam I am reminded of the South African philosophy called Ubuntu which literally translates to “Human kindness”, or “humanity toward others”. There are several different definitions, but it boils down to the fact that humanity comes from conforming to or being part of the tribe, and Im ecstatic to be one of us! I am because you are. Thank you! Whit
